Summer, Wherefore Art Thou?

Yes, it looks innocent enough. All bright yellow and short-skirted and louche and lassie-faire without a care in the world...but do not be fooled. My legs are cold. Like, properly cold.

It disappoints me to have to reach into the stack of cashmere sweaters in the (late) month of June, but that is the reality of summer in the Highlands. One minute you are sitting on your deck with a cold beer in your hand and SPF 30 schmeared all over you like cream cheese on a bagel, the next minute, you are running for cover as the arctic gale-force winds and rain exfoliate you. Horizontally.  It rains horizontally here.

This is my compromise. An oversized cashmere sweater paired with a simple printed jersey Esprit skirt that I found on sale at TK Maxx for £5. Relaxed, warm(ish), and bright.

  3. And does yours not ever entertain the thought of a posed photo when you want it! No! It's always mid-shoot. Funny, funny things. I love the colour of your jumper. Mmmm. I have the last five hundred odd kilometres of Land's End to John O'Groats to do next year but wanted, more than anything on earth to avoid the midges so was thinking may. May need another jacket again by the sound of it!

  4. I'm envious of that weather, believe it or not. It's just too hot here, rarely a breeze, and humid as hell. I love your ensemble and I adore your pithy prose. XXOO

    1. What I would give to be too hot. Oh goodness…what I would give to get out on the tennis court and not have the threat of rain and gales looming…..sigh.

  8. My canines are also exceptionally fond of photobombing.
The whole bagel analogy cracked me up LOL. If you have to deal with such bipolar weather I think you've found the perfect outfit! I love you in chartreuse. I need to send you my pink neon oxfords to go with that fab sweater. Then you can do an 80's flashback photo shoot ;-)

  9. I hear you! I'm still trying to adjust to this being summer and it being about 21 degrees on a good day. Summer in New Zealand is more about 26+ degrees.

I find singlets (wool or not) and nude coloured patterned tights handy for looking summery but being warm. Also light looking scarves i.e. fine cotton or silk add another layer without looking wintery.

    1. I think I need to retying my scarf-free approach to summer. That is a really good solution for this miserable weather.

  11. You did a fantastic job of fooling us (about the weather). Although, I love the look of this oversized cashmere with your floral flowy skirt and those boots just give it the little edge necessary. I definitely plan on copying this fun look on a cool summer night. Hopefully the warmer weather reaches you soon. We're up to 105 today so I will gladly share some with you.

  15. You're managing to look cool and summery even in cashmere. Love the little boots, and the beautiful mustard of your sweater. Your skirt is darling and feminine...and a doggie is the perfect accessory. (=
