I faltered a bit trying to name this post, and as a result, came up with something sort of bland. Then again, when you are dealing with a tone-on-tone outfit that is anchored around the rather non-color of griege, I suppose one can afford to be a bit bland.
Thing is, it seemed a bit too easy to name this post after the 50 Shades franchise, what with all the grey hair and grey clothes and even grey (but they're glitter) booties. But any of you who have been around the blog for a hot minute will know that I full-on hate Fifty Shades of Grey. Not because I find it distasteful, abusive, shocking, or pearl-clutchingly inappropriate. No, Fifty Shades of Grey is quite simply the worst novel I have ever tried to read, and it pisses me off that everyone is so willing to overlook this not so small factoid.
Wanting to see what all the fuss was about (in addition to staying abreast of pop culture) I tried to read the first 50 Shades book last summer on a holiday, and simply could not get through it, it was that poorly written. I even skimmed through the sex parts only half-reading. And this is coming from a girl who on one holiday once read a book called Sin Tropez.
So that said, naming this post after it, even in a derivative sort of way, just seemed wrong to me. So there. Tonal Greige it is then. And for those of you who thought that the 50 Shades book/movie was all that and a bag of under salted, half-baked chips, I recommend the movie Secretary. It's based on a short story from a collection called Bad Behaviour by author Mary Gaitskill, and stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader, who happens to play a character called Mr. Grey. Coincidence? Yeah...sure it is.
