Casual Conservative with Damart

Today I'm happy to be working with online retailer Damart, who were kind enough to send me this knitted jacket cardigan to road test for them. As it turned out, the piece actually solved a lot of my holiday season dressing conundrums.

The older I get, the more I realize that I'm not really a "Chrstmas clothes" person. As sartorial holidays go, I prefer the dark, costumed humor of Halloween to the frenzied, hyper-commercialised affair that Christmas and New Year have become, but that doesn't mean that I've gone completely bah-humbug on the whole affair. I still enjoy a holiday gathering where you get to see people you may not get to see at other times of the year. To my mind, this is one of the things about the season that is actually true to its actual meaning, and I'm all for it. But when you live in a fairly casual (not to mention wet and cold) place like I do, dragging out the sequins and/or the bright red togs for every affair just seems sort of...been there done that. That's where a piece like this cardigan comes in.

This knitted jacket cardigan has a kind of buttoned-down, Chanel bouclĂ© jacket look to it, making it the perfect piece to work a high-low look by pairing it with distressed jeans, booties, and layers of pearls.  I like this look as an alternative to the ubiquitous Christmas sweater, and you can get a lot of mileage out of it - it is appropriate in most environments where you want to keep it casual but also need to be a bit polished and/or conservative. But don't worry. Not too conservative. You need to balance that pearl necklace and buttoned-down cardigan somehow...so you still get to wear your distressed jeans.
