Vintage Batik Dress

I saw this vintage Lord & Taylor batik print shirtdress on eBay a while ago and snapped it up for $14.  Looking at the label, I think it's probably circa late 60s, early 70s? Just a guess.

This is exactly the kind of thing that speaks to me; easy to wear, a print that is bold and dramatic without being fussy and twee, and you don't need a lot in the way of accessories to make it work.

Granted, I need to get it taken in a bit, so I need to wear a belt with it. Not this belt - this belt is the "until I find the one" belt,  but it was the only one I had that sort of worked. I know exactly the belt I want. I can see it in my mind. It will be more like a tie for a shirtdress or an obi belt...I just haven't found it yet.

I'm not in a rush. It's out there. That's the zen of the thrift.

  1. What an awesome score!

  2. The dress is adorable and looks perfect on you! I'd wear it too, love bold patterns and green color, and this shape. I agree - it will be even better with that kind of belt, and it is somewhere out there waiting for you! :)

ps We live between Seattle and Tacoma, on the shore of Puget Sound (Dash Point, Browns Point... does it ring a bell?), in a small seaside community. You sound more like a city girl. I love all the areas you've mentioned, they are vibrant and fun to visit! This whole area is definitely my favorite place to live in the US. :)

  3. Hi there! Such a gorgeous dress the print is lovely! x

  4. I had that dress in 1974. I thought I was THE BOMB. I cannot believe I am seeing it again. yikes I'm old.

  5. I'm keep this plain and simple...
