The Portobello Jacket

Last week I was in London for a few days, and this jacket found it's way off of the racks of one of the secondhand shops on Portobello Road, into my shopping basket, and proceeded to beg me to take it home. The nerve!

It's quite a structured piece; quite stiff denim with a lot of detailing, an asymmetrical button placket, and slightly puffed sleeves (on paper, this sounds like it would be so unappealling, doesn't it?). I found that it looks best when paired with a fuller trouser leg. I have been thinking about a pair of looser, palazzo-type trousers or perhaps even culottes, and this jacket may have just given me the excuse I need to get a pair.

But then, you don't really need an excuse when things just jump of their own accord into your shopping basket, do you?

  1. Great looks wonderful on you!

  2. You are right ! How dare the jacket demand to be moved and taken home! Well because it looks much better on you than hanging somewhere ! I really like the shape, it looks great with the flared pants Just stopping by to wish you a Happy Easter!

  3. Very cool! I love it when things jump into my shopping basket! You can really see the asymmetrical buttons when undone! I love looking at unique features like this!

  4. It's a smart, fun jacket and a good find, Kristin. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!

  5. The silver pumps with the corduroy is stunning! So unexpected. Great look!

  6. This reminds me of a Michael Jackson jacket...only more subtle and chic : )

  7. No, you don't need an excuse at all. Good thing this jacket found it's way into your basket and then on you. You have given it a whole new life. Love the pairing your chose this time, and yet it will look wonderful with a pair of palazzo's as well. I know I would be pairing it with a fun summer skirt as well, maybe even throwing on a belt with it all buttoned up.
